Mary Mikita snapped off the 7th stop on the Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour, held at The Rockin’ Cue in Harlingen, Texas. Mikita bested Ruth Paine in final set, 7-6, marking her first-ever, Tour victory.
On September 9th-10th, 2023, sponsors Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Outsville Billiards, and Team Straight Pool Eye, produced another successful event for the women of the Gulf Coast Tour. The event concluded in one day and featured a $500 added purse. Host venue, The Rockin’ Cue, in Harlingen, Texas, provided twenty, 7’ bar tables for match play, all covered in Predator Arcadia Reserve, tournament blue cloth, in a smoke-free environment. Predator provided Arcos II Pool Balls and Outsville Billiards supplied Accu-Rack template racks, for each table.
The event was played in a round robin format, with two groups of four. The top two players emerging from each group were Mary Mikita, along with newcomer, Katelynn Lee, Jaiden Barbour, and Ruth Paine. Final four action witnessed Mikita defeat Lee, 7-5, and Paine deny Barbour, 7-3. Mikita slid by Paine, 7-6, to secure her first, hot seat victory. On the one-loss side, Barbour eliminated Lee, 5-3, but fell to Paine by the same score. Paine advanced to meet Mikita in the finals, both players vying for their first, Tour win. In the final set, Mikita edged ahead, defeating Paine, 7-6, to capture her first, Gulf Coast Tour event.
