Rocha, Davila, Paine, Villareal
Natalie Rocha bested Yvette Villareal in the second set of the true, double elimination final, to capture the fourth stop on the Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour. Rocha ran through a tough field of 15 players, marking her second Tour win, this year. Villareal also clenched her highest finish to date.
On June 3rd-4th, 2023, sponsors Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Outsville Billiards, and Team Straight Pool Eye, produced another successful event for the women of the Gulf Coast Tour. The event concluded in one day and featured a $500 added purse. Host venue, Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, Texas, provided twenty-four, 7’ bar tables for match play, all covered in Predator Arcadia Reserve, tournament blue cloth, in a smoke-free environment. Predator provided Arcos II Pool Balls and Outsville Billiards supplied Accu-Rack template racks, for each table.
Making their way to the winners’ side, final four, Ruth Paine bested Michelle Abernathy, 7-3, while Natalie Rocha slid by Jaiden Barbour, 7-6. Vania Davila overwhelmed Jessica Alvarez, 7-1, and Yvette Villareal ousted Terri Resendez, 7-3. In the next round, Rocha reigned over Paine, 7-4, and Villareal sent Davila west, 7-4. Hot seat action witnessed Rocha defeat Villareal, 7-2. On the west side, down to the final 8 players in the event, Leslie Pyle eliminated Abernathy, 5-4, but fell to Davila, 5-3. Nancy Cardenas denied Angela Miles, 5-3, but was sent home by Paine, 5-2. Davia went on to shut out Paine, 5-0, but came up short against Villareal, 5-4. In the first set of the final, Villareal, vying for her first title, stood her ground against Rocha. Villareal captured the first set, 7-4. In overtime, Rocha picked up the pace, and closed out the second set, 5-0. Congratulations to Natalie Rocha on her second win of the Tour season, and Yvette Villareal, on her highest finish to date.
