Kawania Watson bested Jaiden Barbour in the finals, to capture the third stop on the Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour, held at Fast Eddie’s (Culebra) in San Antonio, Texas. Watson ran through a tough field of 18 players, undefeated, marking her first Tour win this year.
On March 18th-19th, sponsors Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Outsville Billiards, Team Straight Pool Eye, Brutal Game Gear, T.O.P Barbecue, RG Billiards, Nairobi Bar and Grill, and Medix EMS, produced a successful event for the women of the Gulf Coast Tour. The Tour would like to acknowledge Ruth Paine for procuring additional sponsors for this event. The two-day event featured a $1,000 added purse, drew 18 players, and paid out $1,360 in prize money. Fast Eddie’s provided (19) 8’ tables for match play, while Predator provided Arcos II Pool Balls and Outsville Billiards supplied Accu-Rack template racks, for each table.
Making their way to the winners’ side, final four, Kawania Watson bested Naomi Garcia, 7-5, while Nancy Cardenas defeated Danni Ladd, 7-5. Newcomer, Summer Bowen, slid past Ruth Paine, 7-6, and Sophia Lopez disappointed Jaiden Barbour, 7-4. In the following round, Watson overcomes Cardenas, 7-4, and Lopez overwhelms Bowen, 7-1. Hot seat action witnessed Watson, sneak past Lopez, 7-6. On the west side, in the final eight, Ladd ousted Kim Pierce, 5-2, but fell to Bowen by the same score. Barbour shutout Paine, 5-0, and Cardenas, 5-4, to meet Bowen. Down to the final six players, Barbour eased by Bowen, 5-4, and eliminated Lopez, 5-3, to meet Watson in the finals. Following a well-fought battle by Barbour, a determined Watson clenched the first set, 7-6, to capture her first Tour win of the 2023 season.
