Ming “The Empress” Ng defeated Teresa “Princess of Pool” Garland to capture the second stop on the 2022 Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour. Garland fought her way through the one-loss side, but fell to Ng in the final match, 7-4. Michelle Abernathy recorded a stellar, third place finish, while Brenda Gunter slid into fourth place.
On February 5th-6th, sponsors Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Alamo Billiards, Outsville Billiards, and Team Straight Pool Eye, produced another successful event for the women of the Gulf Coast Tour. The two-day, $500 added event, drew 19 women players and paid out $880 in prize money. The event was hosted by R House Bar and Grill in Houston, Texas, who provided 14, 7’ Diamond bar tables for match play, in a smoke-free environment. Predator provided brand new, Predator Arcos II Pool Balls and Outsville Billiards supplied Accu-Rack template racks, for each table.
The winners’ side final eight witnessed Ming Ng defeat Brenda Gunter, 7-3, and Teresa Garland take down Verda Jones, 7-4, while Ruth Paine denied Crystal Stockman, 7-3, and Michell Abernathy ousted Terri Resendez, 7-4. In the next round, Ng sent Garland west, 7-4, while Paine fell to Abernathy, 7-3. In the hot seat match, Ng overwhelmed Abernathy, 7-3, to capture her first hot seat match of the year. On the west side, and down to the final eight players in the event, Gunter shut out Daniela Ladd, 5-0, and Paine, 5-2, sliding into the final four. Kim “Texas Heat” Pierce overwhelmed Resendez, 5-1, but was eliminated by Garland, 5-3. Garland was on a roll, ending Gunter, 5-2, and Abernathy, 5-1, earning a rematch with the hot seat winner. In the final match, both players were determined, focused on capturing their first Tour win of the season. Following three match wins, Garland fell short, and Ng nosed ahead to the finish line, 7-4. Congratulations to Ming Ng on her first win of the 2022 season.

The Tour would also like to recognize Gulf Coast Tour Board Members Ruth Paine and D’Andrea Leassear, for their assistance in running a seamless, two-day event. Finally, the Tour would like to welcome its newest members, Treva Walker, Tara Mathur, Jessica Alvarez, and Elyss Foust.
