Courtney Peters defeated Robyn Petrosino in overtime, to capture the season opener of the 2022 Gulf Coast Women’s Tour. Peters lost the hot seat to Petrosino, 7-6, but fought her way through the one-loss side to a finals victory, 7-5, 5-2. Newcomer, Mary Mikita of Corpus Christi, soared to a third place finish, while Kim Woodworth settled into fourth.

On January 8th-9th, sponsors Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Alamo Billiards, Outsville Billiards, and Team Straight Pool Eye, produced a successful season opener for the women of the Gulf Coast Tour. The two-day, $1,000 added event drew 29 women players and paid out over $1,000 in prize money. The event was hosted by Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, Texas, who provided 24, 7’ Diamond bar tables for match play, in a smoke-free environment. Predator provided brand new, Predator Arcos II Pool Balls and Outsville Billiards supplied Accu-Rack template racks, for each table.

The winners’ side final eight witnessed Courtney Peters defeat Brandi Fendley, 7-2, and Tamara Kieschnick overrun Michelle Abernathy, 7-4, while Robyn Petrosino handily defeated Mary Mikita, 7-1, and Kim Woodworth overwhelmed Beth Tindell, 7-2. In the next round, Peters went on to shut out Kieschnick, 5-0, and Petrosino slid past Woodworth, 7-6.

In the hot seat match, Petrosino squeaked by Peters, 7-6, capturing the first hot seat match of the New Year. On the west side, and down to the final eight players in the event, Frances Arechiga took out Ruth Paine, 5-2, but fell to Woodworth, 5-0. Mikita eliminated Melissa Fuller, 5-0, and Kieschnick, 5-2, securing fourth place position. Mikita moved on, ending Woodworth, 5-3, but fell to Peters, 5-1. Once again, Peters faced off with Petrosino, but this time, it was for the title. In the finals, Petrosino chipped away at Peters, but it was not enough. Peters held firm, claiming the first set, 7-5. In overtime, Petrosino took a stand, but fell short against Peters, 5-4. Congratulations to Courtney Peters on earning her first title of the 2022 season, the hard way.

Congratulations to Naomi Garcia of San Antonio who took first place in the second chance 9-ball event, with Mary McHaney finishing a respectable second. The Tour welcomed new members Mary Mikita, Amber Bean, Ariana Alonzo, Loretta Miller, Jo Oldacre, Larissa Almendarez, Natalie Porter-Smith, and junior player, Vania Davila at this event. The Tour would also like to recognize Gulf Coast Tour Board Members, Ruth Paine, D’Andrea Leassear, Kim Pierce, and Ming Ng, for their hard work in running a seamless, two-day event. The next event will be held March 19th-20th at R House Bar and Grill in Houston, Texas.
