Ming “The Empress” Ng defeated Teresa “Princess of Pool” Garland to capture the seventh stop on the 2022 Gulf Coast Women’s Regional Billiards Tour. Garland fought her way through the one-loss side, but fell to Ng in the final match, 7-4. Michelle Abernathy recorded a stellar, third place finish, while Brenda Gunter slid into fourth place.
On September 10th-11th, sponsors Poison by Predator Cues, Predator Cues, APA of North Harris County, Alamo Billiards, Outsville Billiards, and Team Straight Pool Eye, produced another successful event for the women of the Gulf Coast Tour. The two-day, $500 added event, drew 16 women players and paid out $820 in prize money. The event was hosted by R House Bar and Grill in Houston, Texas, who provided 14, 7’ Diamond bar tables for match play, in a smoke-free environment. Predator provided brand new, Predator Arcos II Pool Balls and Outsville Billiards supplied Accu-Rack template racks, for each table.
The winners’ side final eight witnessed Ming Ng defeat Christy Grigsby, 7-3, while Brenda Gunter ousted Bethany Leger, 7-3. Teresa Garland crept past Melissa Fuller, 7-6, and Michelle Abernathy denied Verda Jones, 7-4. Breaking into the hot seat match, Ng sent Gunter west, 7-3, and Garland detoured Abernathy, 7-3. The two, undefeated players entered the ring for an eastside battle. Garland gave it her all, but fell short, 7-5. On the west side, down to the final eight players in the event, Melissa fuller bested Mary Grigsby, 5-4, while Christy Grigsby eliminated newcomer, Tuyen Nguyen, 5-1. Gunter went on to end Fuller, 5-3, while C. Grigsby sent home Abernathy, 5-2. C. Grigsby shut out Gunter, 5-0, but lost to Garland, 5-2. Garland earned a rematch with Ng, but the result would be more of the same. In the final set, Ng overwhelmed Garland, 7-3, to earn her fourth title of the 2022 Tour season.
The Tour would like to recognize Ruth Paine who captured the second chance 9-ball event. Christy Grigsby secured her highest finish to date, and newest member, Tuyen Nguyen, competed in her first Tour event.
The Tour is continuously welcoming new players, including junior players, and welcomes them back at every opportunity. The final event is October 8th-9th, at Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, Texas.
